world history

Alteria: the final frontier a world of gods, goddesses and long-lived creatures. It’s the future of Earth but that name has been lost long ago as have many of the things we would recognize as part of our current lives. Things such as technology, running water, even schooling has been lost to this world. The race known as human beings are also a thing of the past, though they haven't been completely lost to time. Those who are left are four groups of a long-lived race that have various human characteristics of humans but are decidedly not at the same time. These clansmen live simply in comparison to life as we know it. It could be compared to the Amish or days of old - people who live off of the land and every day is another day to survive. While the world may not be entirely barbaric, it does certainly have its moments.

Once upon a time a few of the gods and goddesses got together to have a little talk. Everyone knows that a bored god is a dangerous one and that’s exactly who was at this meeting. The god of fire, Kreyos, decided to make a bet with his fellow immortals concerning Yinari’s visions. If the people were given a strong enough free-will they could alter her futuresight and change the world. Seuyal, god of weather, agreed to this bet despite Yinari’s warnings about how interfering with the people would change the natural order of things. Both gods ignored Yinari when she told them that such actions would rip a hole in time and space or that they would create a terrible and great being with the capability of killing both clansmans and immortals alike. So Kreyos picked someone from the Fire Clan to become a pawn for their manipulation. How this child was picked was just as cruel as their game was. Whoever died at midnight ten years from that moment would be cursed and that boy was Kurakai.

The people of the world are divided into clans: Fire Clan, Storm Clan, Earth Clan, Water Clan and Healer Clan. All of these clans have certain abilities and distinguishable features that define them. Those of the Fire Clan have quick tempers and can have a passion that burns as hot as their flames. They often have crimson hair, pointed elongated ears and fangs and are known to be excellent hunters. Most have a very strong loyalty to their family, though if the circumstances are extreme enough those loyalties can shift to friends. As the name states, they can manipulate fire to do their bidding – even create it if necessary. Perhaps it is not the best of abilities to have coupled with their fierce tempers. Their justice is swift when comes to dealing with trouble in both their clan and others. Let’s not forget that they are a cursed clan and their numbers are dwindling to the point of extinction. Fifty years ago they went to war with the Water Clan and exterminated many Water Clan/human-hybrids, and so the leader laid a curse upon their people that is becoming truth. They do tend to get along with best are those of the Storm Clan, however. These people’s abilities are not quite as simple as the title might suggest. While they are capable of manipulating electricity, wind and even create barriers; they can’t actually manipulate storms. Some of the physical characteristics involve being born with white or black hair; being exceptionally tall (even the women are over six feet tall) and they either have gold or silver eyes. While the other clans seem to have general tasks, those of the Storm Clan are more prone to not settling for one thing or another. Instead, trouble seems to follow in their wake though they might think of it as excitement or a good time. Unlike those in the Fire Clan, they’re more devoted to those they choose to surround themselves with rather than those they’re related to by blood. Legend has it that should twins be born into the Storm Clan, that they will be capable of absorbing the power of their sibling. Those that do will become the next leader of the land.

Next comes the Earth Clan with their ability to shift the very ground below their feet or control the growth of plants. Some can even shapeshift into an animal form with years of dedication. A distinguishing feature is that some might bear with animal ears and tail that reflect their spirit animal from the time they’re born. When they become capable of animal transformation, a marking will appear on a visible patch of skin in green or yellow colors. These individuals are held in high regard. Thanks to their abilities, this makes them the perfect farmers. Like the earth itself, they’re hard to shake but when they do, it’s like an earthquake – impossible to stop. Not to mention that they’re like elephants and they never forget anything; good or bad. Those of the Earth Clan are loyal to anyone who they’re with at the time and get along best with the Water Clan people. While the Storm Clan can’t manipulate water, this is exactly what the people of last major clan is capable of. Any form that water comes in; is what they can do – even freeze water upon command. They can also use water to heal injuries and this is what they’re generally known for – they’re the “doctors” of their world. Those of the Water Clan look perfectly normal but as they grow older, that can change if they obtain the ability to be a healer. Healers also have markings on their body that advertise their strength of their powers. Not only are they the medics, but they’re also the teachers too. This world doesn’t have a school system like the one we’re used to but they hold the most knowledge and will share it. Unfortunately, this is exactly how they became the ones to open up a portal to another “world” – the world of humans. One of clan members achieved it and fell in love with a human over seventy years ago. He brought her back to start a family and so the Water Clan/human hybrids began. After twenty years this led to the war between two clans and they were to the ones to lose. Though the curse placed on the Fire Clan may have the final say. The last clan is known as the Healer Clan and was recently created by a member of the Fire Clan. Yet it’s made up of those from any clan provided they can heal wounds. Those who come to this clan are trained and eventually sent out to various villages to become their permanent healer.

These clans are governed by their own set of laws as they all have different views on what’s right and wrong. The Fire Clan is seen as barbaric and ruthless but they are lenient in ways that other clans aren’t. Currently there isn’t a leader for this clan but most people look to a man named Kurakai who sometimes even acts like a leader. Killing is no strange thing to them, though perhaps it should be considering their numbers dwindle by the day. The Storm Clan may be the most prosperous of all of the clans which means they are serious about their laws. It seems as though they have a law for every little thing and some of the bigger ones. The current leader is Dousuke’s twin sister, Shalana (Shea) and they have an alliance with the Fire Clan. For now. Out of all of the clans, the Earth Clan are the most laidback of them all. While they may have some laws, hardly anyone ever feels the need to break them. They have alliances with both the Water and Fire Clans but the stronger one is with the Water people. Finally, the Water Clan are the most cruel when it comes to their laws. Yet one particular member doesn’t see things the same way and has formed a group of people that live a different way. It isn’t lenient but the punishment does seem to fit the crime. This group is the largest of collective Water Clan members and the new law system appears to be working for them.
